This’ll be a mini review, since I’m waiting on some uploads.
NeoSteam is an MMORPG set in a fantasy steampunk environment. It boasts several unique races, classes, two nations at war, mounts, ‘rides’, and Neo Steam.
The two nations, Republic of Rogwel, and the Kingdom of Elerd, are at war. What is it over? Neo Steam. Neo Steam is the source of energy used like electricity. From weapons to air balloons, NeoSteam is needed. To further display that need for NS, you get an allotted set of NS allowance per hour. A resident allowance.
There’s not much to do with Nation – Nation interaction, because the other nation sees your text as jibberish. Random symbols. If we use the Bazaar, we can sell and trade stuff all over the place. There’s also one way to communicate with the other nation. Party Name Chatting. PNC. Use the party name for short sentences. Two names can lead up to a sentence. Avoid big words!
Classes : 8 classes. At level 10, every class branches into two paths. Each nation also has different class names as well as different skill sets. For example, Rogwel has more mechanical summons while Elerd has more ‘natural’ summons.
Base classes include Warrior, Mystic, Scout, and Machinist. An example of a Warrior’s branch would be Vanguard [Offensive] and Justicar [Defensive-Supportive], for Rogwel.
Along with this are skills. Along with skills are resets. From 1 – 30 you get a total of 10 possible skill resets. At 31, you will get a final reset. Make use of resetting at 30 when you’re around 99% to clear up some mistakes. You also get 1 Skill Point per level until level 50. By 51 you will get 2 points. Skills also require TP, which you gain from using skills or by using a Skill Trainer for your class in one of the two starting towns in your nation.
Races : You have Humans, Tazxn Humans, Lyells, Lupines, Tarunes, Elves, and Poms.
Each race has their own set of abilities as well as a special buff skill. These skills will unlock themselves as you level up. Although, it should be noted that you should not pick what seems the best or the strongest. Just pick what you like. And if it’s about power, make yourself powerful, it’s all about equipment. Upgrade, steam cores, the like.
Upgrading : There are 3.5 types of upgrades.
Alteration. Changes the stats on an equipment. Let’s say you have +1500 hp. That item with +1500 hp could go to 1600 hp and get a new -level 5 option.
Enhancement. Mostly used to increase attack power on weapons, defense power on armor. It is recommended to make use of Bronze Gower Stones as well as level 16 and below armor until you can afford your next level of armor. This is mainly because +4 armor is powerful, and Silver Gowers aren’t too easy to often find. Weapons also glow.
Special/Skill. A special upgrade uses a Craftsman Hammer. When an item has S1, it will give you 2% skill power. For every S#, that’d be +2%. s1 – 2% S2 – 4% S3 – 6%, etc. These will give an additional glow near the weapon’s handle.
Cores and Sockets. Sometimes, equipment comes with Sockets. These sockets can be utilized by enchanting with Steam Cores. These cores will give you special abilities, such as reduced damage, gaining NS after every kill, a special attack that deals a lot of damage. The down side is that some of these abilities have relatively long cooldowns. They’re extremely useful skills that make you think twice about which/what to get. Once the core is placed, it can’t be undone.
Mining. I’m not sure about the naming for Elerd vehicles so… After you get a Buggy, you can turn that into a mining buggy for the price of 150,000 Gold. You can also turn it into a steam rider. I would recommend a mining buggy because the steam rider won’t be useful if you don’t have 4,000,000 gold or are under level 50. And that mining is needed to get resources for creating new/more equipment. Crafters are all over the place, and they’ll be waiting around ready to make stuff if you provide the items.
Nations and PvP.
There are a few areas. Republic of Rogwel is 1, Kingdom of Elerd is 2, Taxzn Alliance is 3, and Rope Isle, as well as Riall. The first three areas are visitable by people who are LV 15+. Rope Isle is for 50+ if I remember correctly. Depending on which nation who’s visiting, Rogs can get killed first by Elerds if Rogs are in Elerd territory and vice versa.
Riall is a place to grind for both nations, however, since the middle gives the best experience, everyone rushes there. Sometimes your nation will lose it, sometimes they will reclaim it. There’s the safe area, which is around the PvP area. It’s a place where newbies or lowbies can level up normally without the fear of PK. However, you can still get PKed if you have a debuff on called Call to Arms. And if you die, you also get a Novice Shield buff. You can’t be attacked for 10 minutes, or you can use it as a first strike. However, this applies to the first 1-30 area, Jarit’s Garden. You will not get novice shield in the Riall Factory since after 30 you are no longer considered a noob.
PvP, I would have to say is the best part of NeoSteam. If you don’t create the right skillbuild or pick the right gear, you’ll have some trouble. If Elerds invade Rogwel, then we have the advantage. Using that advantage is great. When the enemy is busy buffing, they are an easy target. Rushing in and taking them out shouldn’t be too hard, especially if you have some back-up near by. It’s cool because people under the same nation will unite and fight as one. War is war!
Raiding. Additionally to PvP, raids aren’t exactly raids, but are raids. People from both nations will eventually go from one area to another. Most do it for a quest because it requires you to kill an NPC. It’s a bit hard to do alone, so it’s best put off until the later levels.
There’s more to PvP though. Siege Wars. You will get to use Siege Engines that deal massive damage. Unlike Nation invading, Siege wars are true wars. The first strike is avalible to the one who strikes first!.
Music. 2004 – 2005. The music’s still pretty good. And funny. Epic music, peaceful music, upbeat music, elevator music. I like the elevator music because it’s in the funniest of places. It plays while we’re in the Elerd area and gathering up. It’s just so weird. It just makes me laugh when thinking of that. ‘Everyone here? Let’s go kill some Elerd NPCS!’ That’s not the type of music you’d expect when you’re going to kill. But, it works.
Overall, NeoSteam is one heck of a game. Even the premium/cash shop items look nice. I already found the item I want, for sure. If I could give an official score, it’d be 8.5/10 to 9/10. There are still some issues, but no real flaws. -0.5 from issues.
I think this might be my first mmo review, ever. I might’ve left some things out, but I have some more things to write.
